AKRON -- Just before 10 p.m. Sunday, a Summit County Sheriff's Deputy made a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling on South Main Street in Coventry Township.

The driver of the vehicle refused to stop, sped away, and tried to elude the deputy by pulling into a garage on South Main Street. The driver did not know the resident of the property.

As the deputy approached the vehicle, she noticed the driver throw an object out of the passenger-side window of the vehicle. The object was later identified as a gas generator from a meth lab.

A search of the vehicle revealed drugs and other components of a meth lab.

John J. Kennedy, 37, of Akron, was arrested for Possession of Drugs, Tampering with Evidence, Illegal Assembly or Possession of Chemicals to Manufacture Drugs, and Illegal Manufacture of Drugs.

The charge of Illegal Manufacture of Drugs is a first-degree felony due to the incident's close proximity to children.

In addition, Kennedy is a registered sex offender in Summit County. He was booked into the Summit County Jail.
