AKRON -- It's time to strap and the skates as we slide into the holiday season.

Akron's Lock 3 is starting things off by opening its popular ice skating rink on Friday.

The rink, which is 10,000 square feet, will remain open until the end of February.

In the coming weeks, additional Christmas-themed attractions will land at Lock 3.

Archie, the massive snowman made famous at his original home at Chapel Hill Mall, returns to downtown Akron on various nights from November 23 through December 31. During those nights, kids can chat with the 17-foot-tall frosty figure.

Lock 3 will ignite with holiday cheer as the annual lighting ceremony is held Friday, Nov. 29 at 7 p.m.

These are just a few of the special events leading into the New Year's Eve celebration -- First Night.
