AKRON -- Starting Wednesday, June 18, the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail will be closed between the Memorial Parkway (499 Memorial Parkway in Akron) and Mustill Store (248 Ferndale Street in Akron) trailheads weekdays from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

A contractor for the City of Akron will make repairs near Lock 18, where the Cuyahoga River is coming close to undercutting the trail.

The Towpath Trail will be open weeknights and weekends during the work, which is expected to last up to two weeks, weather permitting.

Summit Metro Parks manages about half of the Towpath Trail in Summit County, from the Botzum Trailhead near the southern boundary of Cuyahoga Valley National Park to the Stark County line, except for about three miles in downtown Akron.
