AKRON -- One person was taken to the hospital after an SUV crashed into the living room of an Akron home overnight.

Thankfully, nobody was at home when the accident happened because the homeowner was at work and her children were with their grandmother.

The home, located at 959 East Ave., sustained heavy damage and has been boarded up.

The driver, Pasquelina Rice, 45, of Akron, reported the brakes failed while driving a 1997 GMC Jimmy eastbound on Bisson Street, causing her to run off the right side of the roadway and hit the house.

Rice was taken to Akron General Medical Center with injuries that do not appear to be life threatening.

The Akron Police Department Traffic Bureau is investigating. No citations have been issued at this time.
