AKRON -- Events came to a close Saturday morning for the 2014 Gay Games as 325 runners crossed the finish line on S. Main Street in Akron. Crowds came out to cheer for the full marathon and half marathon in Akron as well as the Cycling race in Lakewood Saturday morning.

"These games have been a complete success," said organizer Lisa Sands. "We have had any issues all week."

More than 7,000 athletes from 48 states and 51 countries came to Cleveland to compete for Gay Games 9.

"It's just warm and inclusive and supportive atmosphere and I'm just amazed by how much fun people can have," said Gabe who traveled from Michigan to compete in the Marathon.

Gabe came in first place with a time of 2:37:53.

The winner in the woman's division, Ulrike Hellmich, came in under three and a half hours. This was her first time in the United States.

"The city is really, really great," said Hellmich, who traveled all the way from Germany. "The greatest thing is that all people are friendly here. I really feel good here."

The closing ceremonies will be held at the Quicken Loans Arena at 5:00 p.m.
