CLEVELAND -- Hernandez Warren, 59, has pleaded guilty to the 1984 murder of Cleveland teenager Gloria Pointer. He's agreed to serve 30-plus years for the 1984 rape and murder.

Warren apologized in court. Warren was not arrested until May 2013 when a new DNA test showed a match to evidence collected in the Pointer case.

A three-judge panel -- made up of Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judges Michael Astrab, David Matia and John O'Donnell -- finalized the guilty plea by Warren today.

The panel is required because that is how it would have been handled back in 1984.

Pointer disappeared while walking to school on Dec. 6, 1984. She left her home on East 114th Street in Cleveland around 7 a.m. She planned to meet a classmate and continue on to Harry E. Davis School, where Pointer was to get an award for perfect attendance.

She never reached her friend's home.

Her body was discovered around 10:30 that morning at the base of a fire escape behind an apartment building on Orville Avenue.
