CLEVELAND -- Cleveland police say a preliminary investigation indicates a non-functioning traffic light was a factor in a violent collision at a downtown intersection this morning.
Police say around 5:30 a.m. Friday, a city garbage truck headed southbound on East 9th Street collided with a SUV headed westbound on Superior Avenue. The two vehicles crashed in the intersection of the two streets and the SUV overturned as a result of the impact.
The driver of the SUV, a 30-year-old woman, was taken by EMS to the hospital for pain to the head and hand.
The incident remains under investigation.
The crash caused police to close portions of Superior Avenue for part of the morning. The area has since reopened.
