CLEVELAND -- A judge has set a $3 million bond for the man accused of fatally shooting his own 2-year-old son earlier this week.
Derrice Alexander, 23, was in court around 9 a.m. Thursday to face a charge of aggravated murder. He hung his head with his hair concealing his face for the duration of the brief court hearing.
Alexander has also been ordered to have no contact with the victim's mother.
It was around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday when the incident happened at the Lakeview Terrace apartments near W. 28th Street and Division Avenue.
Police say Alexander and the child's mother were arguing. When Alexander tried to leave the residence, he allegedly fired a shot at the porch where the child was standing. The boy, Derrice Alexander Jr., was struck in the head.
The boy later died at a local hospital.
Alexander allegedly discarded the weapon in a Dumpster and fled to a relative's home nearby. He was arrested a short time later.
The suspected firearm was recovered.
