RICHMOND HEIGHTS -- School Board President Bobby Jordan confirms to WKYC that Superintendent Robert J. Moore II resigned. Jordan said the resignation letter was emailed to him on Monday.
The board has a special meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday where it is expected it will apppoint Doug Heuer, former superintendent of Cleveland Heights-University Heights Schools, as interim superintendent
Back on Feb. 28, Moore and the director of building and grounds for the Richmond Heights Local Schools were arrested and charged with theft and bribery.
According to the Cuyahoga County prosecutor's office, charges against Moore II, 52, of Mentor and Richard R. Muse, 43, of Cleveland Heights are based on taped evidence that the two pressured a local business for $3,700 in cash in the past month.
Moore was an elementary principal before taking over as superintendent in 2012 for Linda Hardwick, who was removed for misusing district property.
The Cuyahoga County prosecutor's office executed search warrants at the school board offices and Moore's home Feb. 28.
School officials say they are fully cooperating with police.
The Richmond Heights Board of Education put the two on paid leave in early March and appointed Bob Mengerink, from the Educational Service Center of Cuyahoga County, interim superintendent.
