Mayfield Village PD investigating a report of possible inappropriate contact between a Mayfield High School female student and an athletic trainer.
MAYFIELD VILLAGE -- The Mayfield Village Police Department says it is investigating a report of possible inappropriate contact between a Mayfield High School female student and an athletic trainer assigned to the school.
No charges have been filed and no arrests have been made.
Mayfield school administrators said, in a letter to parents, that the contract with the trainer has been terminated.
Superintendent Dr. Keith Kelly's letter reads:
As educators, our primary concern is to take care of our Mayfield students and families. I need to share information with you about an allegation of inappropriate misconduct between a contracted employee of the Cleveland Clinic who provided services to Mayfield City Schools and a Mayfield student.
I want to stress this point: The Mayfield City Schools' primary concern is to protect the student and families involved. Rumors and gossip do not help this situation and I urge you to refrain from it.
Upon learning of the allegation, swift and immediate action was taken by the Mayfield administration. The accused was escorted from the Mayfield campus and Mayfield Village Police were called immediately.
Our contract with this individual has been terminated. Mayfield Village Police are conducting a thorough and ongoing investigation into this allegation.
I must reiterate this point: The actions of one accused individual in no way reflect the great work of our Mayfield teachers and staff or that of the Cleveland Clinic. We stand by our student and families through this difficult time.
At this time, I cannot comment further. If this situation develops, I will update our parents and community.
Mayfield Village Police Chief Richard Edelman confirmed information to WKYC.
"The Mayfield Village Police Department is investigating a report of possible inappropriate contact between a female Mayfield High School student and an adult male. The male was a contracted athletic trainer assigned to the school to assist with sports-related injuries."
"No charges have been filed and no arrests have yet been made and until such time the male's name is not being released. The incident is under continued investigation and Mayfield School administration is cooperating fully."
