PARMA -- Police have arrested a man suspected to have robbed a Dollar Bank branch Saturday morning.

Bank employees called police around 9:49 a.m. to report the robbery. The suspect left the scene in a Chrysler minivan.

Minutes later, a police motorcycle officer noticed the van at the intersection of Snow Road and Big Creek Parkway and a pursuit began.

The chase went into the city of Brook Park toward the intersection of Pemberton and Michael Drive. That's where the suspected made a U-turn and deliberately ran into the pursuing officer, knocking him off his motorcycle. The officer shot at the suspect but didn't hit him.

Officers continued to chase the suspect into the city of Berea. That's when the suspect abandoned the van and ran on foot through the woods near 680 N. Rocky River Drive.

K-9 officers were called in to help search for the man. He was located in the woods behind 617 Grayton Road.

The suspect was taken to Southwest Hospital to be treated for bite wounds.

The motorcycle officer was also taken to the same hospital to be treated for his injuries. His condition is not known at this time.

Parma police were assisted by the Cuyahoga Couny Sheriff's deparmtent, Brook Park, Parma Heights, and Berea police departments, as well as the Cleveland office of the FBI.
