CLEVELAND -- A Willoughby woman is recovering after she was shot outside The Bingham on West 9th Street early Saturday morning.

Police were called about 2:30 a.m. to the 1200 block of W. 9th Street for a large crowd and for people setting off fireworks.

Officers were attempting to move the crowd along when shots were heard coming from the parking lot of The Bingham apartments.

Officers located the victim, a Willoughby woman, 19, with a gunshot wound to the ankle.

The woman and witnesses described the shooter and officers caught him a short time later.

They arrested Dennis Coates, 29, of Cleveland.

Due to the rowdy crowd, officers were called in from other Cleveland districts to aid with congested traffic and disbursement of the crowd.

The woman that was shot was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center by Cleveland EMS. The suspect was taken to jail.
