CLEVELAND - In mere seconds, more than 50 years worth of history came tumbling down, paving the way for future decades of growth and expansion in Cleveland.

The explosive demolition of the old Innerbelt Bridge was a fitting ending to what had been a groundbreaking piece of infrastructure and gateway to so many memories.

"Yeah, I remember when this bridge went up. I was a child with my father and remember the construction of the bridge going up back in the day," said Dave Critchlow, who recalls traveling across the old Innerbelt Bridge thousands of times before it was deemed outdated and unsafe.

"It's just a piece of steel but, you know, I can just remember some memories of crossing it and this and that," he continued.

The historic landmark is being replaced by not one, but two new and improved structures.

One of the new bridges is already in place and transportation experts say both new structures will improve traffic flow through the I-90 corridor providing better access to jobs, commerce, and future development.
