Sachar, his parents and two other children were crossing in the crosswalk on Franklin just after noon Saturday afternoon when a driver, a Chagrin Falls woman, 62, plowed into them. The pedestrians, from Arlington, Virginia, were all taken to Hillcrest Hospital where Eli died.
The mother, who was carrying Eli's baby brother Wes, was also struck and ended up under the hood of the car. While she sustained minor injuries, baby Wes was unharmed.
The driver was taken to Ahuja Medical Center in Beachwood. She has been released from Ahuja but police say the charges against her are pending.
Police say that the parents and the two other children have all been released from the hospital and the family has returned home to Arlington.
