NORTH OLMSTED -- Police Chief Jamie Gallagher responded to WKYC after he was asked if 40,000 Social Security numbers were allegedly released in a public documents request without the Social Security numbers being redacted.

His response was:

"On July 14, 2014, our department was informed by news media they had received from an unnamed source, documents released to them which contained un-redacted Social Security numbers. Our records show that a public records request was handled by our department and Social Security information was redacted prior to the release by the police department."

"We are presently investigating how the source received this information and the number of persons affected."

WKYC will update this story when more information is available from North Olmsted Police.
