LEROY TOWNSHIP -- The lake County Sheriff confirms that there was a head-on collision here just after 7 a.m. this morning.

Deputies and the Leroy Township Fire & Rescue were sent to 6565 Vrooman Road.

The investigation concluded that a Leroy Township boy, 17, was driving a 2001 Ford Taurus south on Vrooman.

He claimed to have fallen asleep and drove left of the center line. The Ford Taurus collided head-on with a 2004 Mitsubishi Endeavor that was traveling north on Vrooman.

The Mitsubishi was driven by Benjamin Yarger, 27, of Chardon.

Both vehicles sustained disabling front end damage and were towed from the scene. Both operators were wearing their safety belts. The airbags on both of the involved vehicles had deployed.

The drivers were treated at the scene by Leroy Township Fire & Rescue and the teen was issued a citation for traveling left of the center line.
