The officer recognized the object as a bullet and, at about the same time, heard gunshots coming from a neighboring mobile home.
MENTOR -- About 11 a.m. Wednesday, police responded to a mobile home at 9151 Mentor Avenue for a report that someone threw a rock through a window.
While there, the resident showed the officer what came through the window. The officer recognized the object as a bullet and, at about the same time, heard gunshots coming from a neighboring mobile home.
He radioed for assistance and escorted the residents to safety.
At this point, other officers responded and set up a perimeter on the unit while helping evacuate several other mobile homes in the area.
Once the evacuations were complete, the residents of the mobile home were contacted and they came out to speak to officers.
Carl Coup, 39, was arrested and charged with discharging firearms.
The investigation is continuing and additional charges are pending.
Nobody was injured as a result of the incident.
Police say that at 12:30 p.m., the evacuated residents were allowed to return to their homes.
