Lorain -- Heavy rain and flooding kept city workers in Lorain busy overnight.

"Police, fire, public works and utility workers were dispatched throughout the city, as were police auxiliary officers." Deputy Safety Service Director Leon Mason says. "They continued work throughout the evening and this morning."

City officials estimate anywhere between 4.5 - 6.5 inches of water fell in a "very short period of time."

Authorities say areas flooded rarely, or never, flood.

The Lorain Fire Department rescued several people from cars that were stalled because of the high water, but as of now there are no reports of any injuries.

"The city will work with the Lorain County EMA, as well as other organizations e.g. Red Cross, whom are able to assist," Mason says.
