AVON LAKE -- The Avon Lake city pool closed for a couple house Tuesday morning due to elevated pH levels.

Several dozen children in the water at the Ellen Trivanovich Aquatic Center for swim team practice and swim lessons were told to get out of the pool.

The city's Recreation Department says closing the pool was a precaution and no children were in danger.

The pH level had elevated to 8.0. The pool's preferred level is between 7.2 to 7.6.

The parks director says staff tests the water a minimum of six times a day, and the levels can be affected by a number of factors, including rain or sunshine.

The pool is expected to reopen today when pH levels are restored.
