WELLINGTON, Ohio -- She asked herself "why not?" and went for it. Melissa Fuquay is the first female firefighter in Wellington. This summer, she earned several medals at the Ohio Police and Fire Games.

This includes best female lifter in all weight classes. Her 240 pound dead lift shattered a state record.

Fuquay said she got serious about lifting about a year and half ago and her skills in the gym have helped her as a firefighter.

Fuquay hits the gym five to six days out of the week. When she is not at the gym or fire house, she can be found working on a horse farm.

She now has her eyes set on the World Police and Fire Games next year, where Fuquay said she'll compete again in raw power lifting.
