LORAIN -- The Lorain Police Department warns residents that someone is impersonating a city water department employee.

The police department received a complaint that a resident was approached by a man who claimed to work for the water department. The manwanted to check in the pipes in the inside of the house.

The man refused to show identification and was not driving a marked city vehicle. He was denied entry into the residence and left the area.

He is described as black, about 6 feet tall with a large build, wearing a blue t-shirt and jeans, and driving a white Ford Crown Victoria.

Lorain City Water Department employees are required to show city identification and rarely need to check the interior pipes of a residence.

When they have to enter a house, it is scheduled appointment.
