"This is a direct result of several rate increases acquired from Avon Lake Municipal Utilities," Mayor Dennis Harwell said
MEDINA -- In a letter to residents, Mayor Dennis Harwell informed residents that water rates were going up.
Harwell said the city will implement a 5 percent rate increase starting Aug. 1.
"This is a direct result of several rate increases acquired from Avon Lake Municipal Utilities," Harwell said. "In the past, we have attempted to moderately increase the rates incurred from Avon while balancing the day-to-day operations of the city water system. As such, there are several unanticipated capital improvements that the water fund cannot sustain, therefore the rate increase is necessary to maintain current operations and service levels."
Avon Lake Regional Water has about 200,000 customers, largely in Lorain and Medina counties.
