WASHINGTON -- Senator Rob Portman has issued a statement expressing appreciation for Del Donahoo's life and career.

The Cleveland broadcast legend died earlier this week at the age of 90.

Portman said, "The WKYC family and the northeast Ohio community have lost a dear friend.

"Known for his kindness, decorum and hard working nature, Del Donahoo was truly one of a kind. Throughout more than five decades as a broadcaster, he delivered news, entertained and made friends of all ages and backgrounds through his travels in the iconic Folkswagon. And through his Del's Folks feature, he visited festivals , sites and countless towns around the region, connecting viewers with the rich , scenic and diverse attributes of communities across our great state.

"His dedication to his work was only surpassed by his love and devotion to his wife, Martha and their family.

"Del Donahoo's legacy will live on in the hearts of friends, colleagues and viewers throughout the Northeast Ohio community. My prayers and sympathy go out to his many friends and family."
