Lyndhurst Police Chief Rick Porrello tells Channel 3 that a Pepper Pike man led police in Mayfield Heights, Lyndhurst and South Euclid on a chase on Mayfield Road, crashing into one car head-on and also striking a Lyndhurst police cruiser.
Porrello said that, just before 10 p.m. Monday, Mayfield Heights police tried stopping a suspected intoxicated driver traveling westbound on Mayfield Road.
Lyndhurst police went to assist and saw the vehicle driving recklessly, crossing left of center, Porrello said.
The driver continued westbound past Richmond Road where he struck an eastbound vehicle head-on in South Euclid, then hit another car, Porrello said.
As police tried to box the suspected intoxicated driver in, he then hit a Lyndhurst police cruiser, causing minor damage, Porrello said.
The driver was finally stopped at the intersection of Mayfield and Green roads in South Euclid.
Porrello says William K. McGinty, 23, of Pepper Pike was charged with OVI and reckless operation.
Porrello says additional charges are likely. Porrello could not confirm what type of injuries the other drivers suffered but heard victims were up and walking around.
McGinty was taken to Hillcrest Hospital due to his extreme intoxication, Porrello said.
