GROTON TOWNSHIP -- The Ohio Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle serious injury crash that occurred Tuesday morning on Mason Road near State Route 269 in Erie County.

Brian Bowers, 44, of Vickery was driving a black 1991 International truck for Cyclone Services when he stopped the truck to collect trash.

That's when a silver 1999 Pontiac Grand Am driven by Heather M. Russell, 23, of Bellevue, slammed into the back end of the truck.

Russell was taken to Firelands Regional Medical Center by Margaretta Township EMS with incapacitating injuries. Troopers say she was not wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash.

Her child, Nevan Jordan, 3, was taken to Firelands Regional Medical Center by Margaretta Township EMS and later taken to Mercy St.. Vincent' Medical Center by LifeFlight. Nevan is listed in critical condition.

Troopers say Russell was eastbound on Mason Road and alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

Mason Road was closed for approximately three hours.
