ERIE COUNTY -- A Port Clinton man died early Sunday morning from injuries sustained in a one vehicle crash in Margaretta Township.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Leon McCoy Jr., 22, passed away from his injuries at Cleveland's MetroHealth Medical Center.

The Sandusky Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash that occurred Saturday night at approximately 11:26 p.m.

The crash occurred in Margaretta Township, Erie County on Wahl Road near Brunner Road.

McCoy was transported to Firelands Hospital by Margaretta EMS after the crash and later flown by Metro LifeFlight to MetroHealth Medical Center.

He was traveling westbound on Wahl Road and failed to negotiate a curve. McCoy's White 1999 Pontiac Sunfire 4 door which sustained severe damage and was towed from the scene by Galloway Towing.

He drove off the right side of the road, struck a utility pole, struck a mailbox, and struck a tree, where McCoy was ejected.

The crash remains under investigation and no citations have been issued yet. Alcohol may have been a factor. McCoy was not wearing a seat belt, according to the Highway Patrol.

Margaretta Fire and EMS, Erie County Sheriff's Office and Galloway Towing assisted at the scene.
