The National Weather Service storm damage caused in Richland County last night appears to be the result of straight-line winds.

Survey teams were sent to Richland and Morrow counties this morning after strong storms were reported Tuesday night.

The most serious damage was reported in Bellville, where a mobile home was overturned by the winds and numerous trees were brought down. A hotel and gas station near Interstate 71 and state Route 97 also was damaged. Neighboring Morrow County also reported damage, including the destruction of a barn and roof damage to another mobile home.

According to the National Weather Service, radar at the time indicated a bow echo between 8:55 p.m. and 9 p.m. that likely produced a series of microbursts. It says wind speeds in those microbursts were recorded as high as 80 mph.

WKYC's sister site, The Mansfield News Journal reports the woman inside the Bellville mobile home that was overturned in the storms is in the hospital with injuries to her sternum after her water tank apparently struck her chest.

Shirley Weikle, 76, is doing as well as expected according to her daughter, Pam Oswalt. Oswalt told the News Journal her mother is not happy about being in the hospital.

A mobile home was tipped over due to severe weather pasting through North Central Ohio Tuesday night.

"She was getting her cell phone in the bedroom when it flipped," Oswalt said. Oswalt said her brother found their mother hanging out a window hollering and trying to get help.

"She knew she had to get out, and she smelled propane," said Oswalt.

Oswalt said her brother was afraid they had lost their mother upon coming down to the trailer from his home nearby.

"All this can be replaced. Our mom can't," she told a News Journal photographer today.
