CLEVELAND -- It's an organization that's been supporting children who've lost their hair due to chemotherapy and other causes.
Wigs for Kids is that organization and they've got a big event Saturday morning.
One family came all the way from Louisiana to deliver 50, 13 inch hair bundles, hand off $1,800 they raised for a child who needs a wig and cut their hair.
If it's not amazing enough that two of them cut off more than a foot of hair, one of them is 8-years-old and it's her brain child.
Cadence Prudhomme is cutting 13 inches of long blond locks.
"Cadence is very young, but she's a very loving child," Breanna Prudhomme tells Channel 3's Hilary Golston. "This doesn't surprise me for something cadence would do."
She brought the hair to donate and the money to buy a wig for a child who needs it.
"Her little friend's sister was diagnosed with cancer and she experienced the loss of hair that Maya went through," Breanna said. "I think that was an eye opener for all of us, so Cadence decided that she wanted to cut her hair for another little girl.
Farrah, a patient at St. Judes will be the recipient of a wig, all because of Cadence's efforts.
"I think this is a good cause because some other little girl is gonna get her hair and I think Maya's looking down watching us and I think she's gonna be really happy," Cadence said.
It's a family cutting affair. Mom is also donating her long locks. Brandon doesn't have the required length to donate, but he's shaving his hair into a Mohawk, in the spirit of solidarity.
"Do you think it's gonna be mass chaos with all those women getting their hair cut… lot a screaming crying," Golston asked Brandon, the family's patriarch. "We're gonna be pretty colorful when we get there."
The event is tomorrow morning at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, located at 3900 Wildlife Way in Cleveland.
The event begins at 7 A-M.
The price for tickets ranges between $15 and $30.
Channel 3's Hilary Golston will emcee the event.
