The Richland County Sheriff's office says three sheriff's deputies and a supervisor who were involved in the incident were placed on administrative leave
LEXINGTON -- The Richland County Sheriff's office says three sheriff's deputies and a supervisor who were involved in the incident were placed on an eight-day administrative leave, per policy.
Just after 7 p.m. Sunday, deputies were called to 3425 Mill Run Road in Lexington to respond to a domestic dispute. Sara Knowlton, wife of Brian Garber, and Brian's mother, Connie Garber, told deputies they had been physically assaulted by Brian Garber.
Brian Garber left the area on foot prior to deputies' arrival. A check of the area was done, but he could not be located.
At 8:17 p.m., Sara Knowlton called 911 and said her husband had a gun and was now across the street at his parent's home at 3400 Mill Run Road.
Brian's father was at the home and deputies went upstairs to make contact with Brian.
Deputies were then involved in a shooting with Brian Garber, who died at the scene.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation was asked by the Richland County Sheriff's Office to handle the investigation and the crime scene.
The Richland County Prosecutor responded to the scene. The Lexington Police Department and Bellville Police Department assisted deputies on the call.
Mansfield Police offered their assistance to handle calls in the county just after the incident.
The Richland County Coroner's Office is coordinating their investigation with BCI&I.
