Last year, FitzGerald called on Republican officeholders to return donations in a similar circumstance
COLUMBUS -- Early Friday, the Ohio Republican Party has called on Cuyahoga County Executive and gubernatorial candidate Ed FitzGerald to return a donation he received from indicted Youngstown Mayor John McNally IV.
McNally for Mayor gave $1,000 to Ed FitzGerald's campaign on January 31, 2014.
In a statement, the party said Democratic Youngstown Mayor John McNally and Democratic county Auditor Michael Sciortino were indicted on charges involving "bribes, perjury and illegal campaign funds."

McNally was charged with conspiracy, perjury, theft in office, and money laundering.
"It's time for FitzGerald to be held to the same standard that he holds others to," said Ohio Republican Party spokesman Chris Schrimpf.
"There's nothing worse than a hypocrite in politics. FitzGerald has already proven to be one on transparency, now we'll see if he continues his trend by keeping corrupt contributions."
Later Friday, the FitzGerald Campaign donated Mayor's McNally campaign contribution to the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund.
Then FitzGerald's folks also pointed out that the campaign of his opponent, Republican Gov. John Kasich, had yet to return or contribute to charity a $1,000 donation from the campaign of State Rep. Peter Beck, R-Mason, who faces 69 criminal counts related to investment fraud and theft.
Kasich campaign spokesman Connie Wehrkamp then replied that his campaign would contribute the $1,000 to the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
"There's a big difference between us receiving a contribution four years ago from someone (Beck) who got in trouble years later versus the other side actively soliciting funds from someone (McNally) with a cloud over him at the time," she said.
Last year, FitzGerald called on Republican officeholders to return donations in a similar circumstance and Republicans did so.
