MOHICAN TOWNSHIP -- One 18-year-old is dead and another serious injured following a Thursday evening crash.

The Ashland Post of the Highway Patrol says 18-year-old Brooke Lewis, of Jeromesville, Ohio, was driving southbound on County Road 2175 in a 1999 Saturn SE2. The accident happened when authorities say Lewis failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of US 30 westbound and failed to yield when crossing into the eastbound lanes. That's when her vehicle was struck by a commercial truck around 8:11 p.m.

Authorities say Lewis, who was not wearing her seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her passenger, Cheyenne Spidel, of Perrysville, was LifeFlighted from the scene to a Cleveland hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the commercial vehicle, 59-year-old Dale Douglass, suffered minor injuries.

Authorities say alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.

The incident remains under investigation.
