ASHLAND COUNTY -- Two people were killed in a Tuesday evening crash when a pair of vehicles collided on US 42 at state Route 302 in Jackson Township.
The Ashland post of the Highway Patrol says the crash happened when the driver of a 2010 Mercedes C300 failed to stop at a stop sign and was struck by a 2003 Chrysler Town & Country minivan.
Both vehicles traveled off the east side of the road and into a yard.
Two of three passengers inside the Chrysler were killed as a result of the accident. They have been identified as Loretta Meacham, 77, of Bellevue, and Autumn Meacham, 25, of West Salem. Authorities say neither had been wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
The driver of the Chrysler and a remaining juvenile passenger were taken to Ashland Samaritan Hospital with undisclosed injuries. Authorities say the driver was not wearing a seat belt, but the child was secured in a booster seat.
The driver of the Mercedes reportedly suffered minor injuries. She was also taken to Ashland Samaritan Hospital. Authorities say she was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
Troopers say alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
The crash remains under investigation.
