GARRETTSVILLE -- The state fire marshal has ruled that the cause of the March 22 fire that struck downtown Garrettsville is officially "undetermined."

The state fire marshal's office said it could not rule out the ignition of roofing materials as the cause and there was no indication of any criminal activity.

At 1:15 p.m. Saturday March 22, a 911 call that the downtown was on fire brought 34 fire departments from Geauga and Portage counties to the corner of Center and Main streets and down to the corner High and Main streets.

In all, 13 businesses were destroyed.
