KENT -- A woman has been charged in a July hit-and-run accident that took the life of a Rootstown man.

Allison Barton, 22, is charged with aggravated vehicular homicide with alcohol, aggravated vehicular homicide, failure to stop at an accident, operating a vehicle under the influence, OVI -- heroin and leaving the scene of an accident.

She was arrested the day of the accident and was served with the indictment Friday at the Portage County Jail.

According to police, Richard Schoepe, 37, was hit in the area of North Water Street and Columbus Street about 10 a.m. July 17 and sustained severe injuries.

He was taken to Akron City Hospital by Kent firefighters, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Jason Grom, a forensic investigator with the Summit County coroner's office, reports the cause of death was multiple blunt force trauma.
