CANTON TOWNSHIP -- Two horses are dead and now the Stark County Sheriff's Office is searching for the shooter.

One of the horses was a therapy horse for a child with autism.

Peaches belonged to a 15-year-old girl, Ebony to a child with autism.

Brenda Boyce says her daughter is heartbroken.

"She goes to Ebony's picture every day, two and three times a day, wanting to come up and see her, and we can't let her," said Brenda.

As the sun went down on Sunday, someone fired shots into the field killing the two horses.

Neighbors heard the shots but didn't know the horses had been hit until the next day.

"We are in the process of conducting an investigation, much like any investigation. We are collecting evidence trying to get details, witness statements and those things to try and piece this thing together," said Stark County Sheriff George Maier.

While the Sheriff's Office increases its patrols, Brenda has been posting the horses' pictures on Facebook, hoping someone knows something.

She says she is grateful for all the response and support.

"It's very comforting and I want to tell everyone how appreciated it is," said Brenda.

Brenda says the shooters don't know how much hurt they've caused -- or they don't care.

She just wants justice, for both the horses and the two girls who loved them.

"Whoever did this had to be cold hearted. I would want the fullest extent of the law done to them," said Brenda.

Brenda says she can't replace Ebony, but she does have another horse named Shadow that's she's hoping to train as her daughter's new therapy horse.
