CANTON TOWNSHIP -- The Stark County Sheriff's Office is investigating the drowning of a 3-year-old girl in Myers Lake Wednesday morning.
Sheriff George T. Maier said it's an investigation into the drowning death of Rossylnn Marie Jones, 3, who was recovered by deputies from Myers Lake just after 9:30 a.m.
Deputies responded to a call at 9:21 a.m. received from the child's mother, Mariah Nicole Gaspers, of Canton who reported a missing child.
Deputies arrived at the home at 9:31 a.m.
Upon learning that the child had left the home sometime earlier, deputies immediately began to search the area.
At 9:37 a.m., deputies discovered the child in the water approximately nine feet from a boat dock located at 1666 North Park Avenue, NW in Canton.
Deputies retrieved the unresponsive child from the water and immediately began CPR which was continued by the Canton Township Fire Department.
She was taken to Mercy Medical Center for treatment. At 1:40 p.m., Rosslynn Nicole was pronounced deceased by Mercy Medical staff.
The drowning and subsequent death remain under investigation by the Stark County Sheriff's Office in cooperation with the Stark County Coroner's Office.
