CANTON -- Police say an escaped inmate was captured around 12:45 a.m. Tuesday.

Michael Houghton was captured in the 1400 block of Shorb Avenue NW in Canton. Authorities say he was located alone inside a vehicle after a tip from an anonymous caller.

It was just a little more than a mile from where he disappeared Monday around 4 p.m. while en route from Canton Municipal Court to the Stark County Jail Monday.

Police say he's being transported back to Start County Jail.

Houghton was in custody because he tried to escape last week during a preliminary court appearance. That time he was caught before he left the building.
