PLAIN TOWNSHIP – Plain Township is in a state of emergency as a result of Wednesday morning's flooding with more heavy rain expected.

Township trustees told Channel 3 News the rain that collected over the week has nowhere to go and is not receding as it should.

The Stark County Emergency Management Agency activated its Emergency Operations Center and is surveying damage throughout the county. The hardest hit communities are Louisville, North Canton, Lake Township, Plain Township and Nimishillen Township.

The Stark County Regional Chapter of the American Red Cross opened a shelter to those displaced by the floods. The shelter is located at Louisville High School, 1201 South Nickelplate Street. It will remain open until accommodations are made for all requiring assistance.
