A red fox that was undergoing rehabilitation has been stolen from Stark Park's wildlife center.

Staff arrived Friday to find the fox missing and its cage cut.

The young fox was under the care of park staff and needs medication to stay well.

According to Stephon Eschague, senior wildlife rehabilitation specialist at the center, safety of the fox is another concern.

"The fox has not acclimated to a natural environment and cannot hunt for food or fend for itself in the wild," he said.

If whoever took the fox plans to keep it as a pet, he warns that Ohio law prohibits keeping a wild animal as a pet.

Rangers are reviewing security footage.

Anyone with information about the fox is asked to contact the Stark Parks Public Safety Department at (330) 477-3609.

The center cares for nearly 2,000 injured or orphaned wild animals a year.
