AKRON -- An area soccer coach is accused of rape, sexual battery and other crimes in an indictment released by Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh.

Walsh says Gregory Kudla, 37, of Twinsburg carried out these crimes against two victims, both of whom he knew.

Kudla is the trustee and head coach for the Sagamore Hills FC, a nonprofit that offers soccer programs for adults and youth in Northeast Ohio.

The prosecutor's office says the female victims, and the crimes themselves, are unrelated to the club.

Kudla was indicted on:

Eight counts of Rape (felonies of the first degree)

Eight counts of Sexual Battery (felonies of the third degree)

Five counts of Gross Sexual Imposition (felonies of the third degree)

Disseminating Matter Harmful to Juveniles (felony of the fifth degree)

The crimes stem back to 2005, when one victim was under 13 years old. Counts nine through 16 indicate Kudla was serving as a guardian or parental figure to the victim.

"The arrest of someone who holds a position of respect within the community for sexual abuse serves as a sober reminder that sexual predators are not always who you expect," said Walsh.

"As parents we need to be vigilant about who we allow our children to trust. We need to keep an open line of communication with our children so that they will come to us if an adult acts inappropriately."

Kudla will be arraigned in Summit County Common Pleas Court May 28.
