AKRON -- The craft beer boom has been exploding all over Northeast Ohio for decades, but now there's a new player coming to town.

Micro-breweries are being joined by nano-breweries, places that brew smaller batches of beverages for customers to savor, and the City of Akron is leading the way.

WKYC Photojournalist Carl Bachtel visited one nano-brewery taking root right in the middle of the Rubber City.

Akron is steeped in beer history. Today, the brick behemoths, like the former Burkhardt Brewing Company, are being re-purposed for new beer businesses like Aqueduct Brewing.

The co-owners are Robert Hernandez, his wife Sara and Akron police officer Dale Dorn.

Owners say this is going to be a place where you come, you taste some different beers, you find what you like, and you can take a growler or order a keg.

It's also home to Thirsty Dog Brewing Company. So, Akron is, once again, making a splash in the beer-world.

The Thirsty Dog distributes to 13 states. There's also craft brewery Hoppin' Frog.
