Seventeen-year-old Brett Nichols isn't surprised he did a fabulous job dancing as Michael Jackson at a school talent show last week. He's been practicing for about 10 years.
Nichols' performance to Billie Jean is an Internet hit, with YouTube views going from about 7,000 to 170,000 in just one day.
"I guess people still miss him, it's been five years (since his death). The younger generation appreciates the work, and not only does someone care, but someone cared to put in the time," Nichols explained to News 10 about why Jackson and his impression were such a hit.
For Nichols, it was the ability to find video of Michael Jackson that hooked him on his music.
"YouTube came around and you could find all the videos and songs I remembered hearing," Nichols said. "Then it was possible to see the choreography, it inspired me. And then I thought, 'why isn't this something I can't do.' Then it was practice, practice, watch, learn and take notes."
Nichols was very proud of the dance he performed -- but said because he's a perfectionist, he can still find a kick or leg lift that needs more work.
