DETROIT -- Prosecutors say two Detroit-area police sergeants robbed a man believed to have stolen a cellphone belonging to the daughter of one of the officers.
The Wayne County prosecutor's office announced charges Monday against Detroit Sgt. David Pomeroy and St. Clair Shores Sgt. Michael Notoriano.
Prosecutors say Notoriano's daughter was robbed of her iPhone at a Detroit gas station July 20.
They say Pomeroy and Michael Notoriano traced the phone and confronted three Detroit men at gunpoint the next day.
Both men face armed robbery and a number of other charges.
Notoriano lawyer Todd Flood says his client and Pomeroy are "outstanding" and "highly decorated" officers. A message seeking comment was left with Pomeroy's attorney.
The defendants were arraigned Monday and a probable cause hearing is scheduled for Dec. 18.
