CLEVELAND -- Armond Budish has the Cuyahoga County Democratic Party endorsement, a big fundraising lead and endorsements of big-name Democrats, including outgoing county executive Ed FitzGerald, the man he wants to succeed as Cuyahoga County Executive.

But despite all that, former Cuyahoga County Sheriff and Bedford City Manager and Police Chief Bob Reid is deciding to stay in the race, claiming it is winnable.

Beside Budish and Reid, Democratic candidates include state Senator Shirley Smith, former North Olmsted Mayor Thomas O'Grady and activist/blogger Tim Russo.

"Political pros know there are too many spoilers in the race," Reid said.

Reid claims a Zogby poll bankrolled by a businessman supporter shows 26 percent of the vote may be enough to win the primary.

Reid declared, "Ideas, not a big wad of campaign cash, are going to win this race."

The winner of the May 6 primary will likely face Republican County Councilman Jack Schron.
