CLEVELAND -- Our city is one step closer to hosting the 2016 Republican National Convention.

Reince Priebus, chairman of the Republican National Committee tweeted the final cities left in the running at 10 a.m. Thursday.

"Congratulations to Cleveland, Cincinnati, Columbus, Denver, Dallas, Kansas City, Las Vegas & Phoenix for moving on to the next phase," his tweet declares.

A team of city leaders will be in Washington next Monday to make the city's case to host the RNC. Each city will get an hour to present.

Finalist cities will be chosen by April.

The convention could bring 35,000 visitors and an estimated $200 million or more of economic benefits.

There is also a push in the city to bring the Democratic National Convention to Cleveland, too.
