CLEVELAND -- Multiple sources say Republicans will make their next announcement about their preferred 2016 convention city on Tuesday.

The 9-member site selection committee will have a morning by-phone vote.

Cleveland and Dallas are vying for the prize, which would mean tens of thousands of visitors, hundreds of millions of dollars and invaluable worldwide exposure for the winner.

Dallas has the most money, the most hotel rooms, the most electoral votes and the most Republicans.

Cleveland has its key role in an important swing state, bipartisan cooperation and a newly-revived downtown.

Convention team members hope that plus passion and a public-private team approach make the sale.

Republicans want to announce a "done deal" with the winning city on Aug. 8,.

Tuesday's announcement will complete a long selection process that began early in the year.

The mood among Cleveland's convention team remains cautiously optimistic, trying to avoid overconfidence.

But the political winds may be blowing Cleveland's way.

One good sign..there were active holiday weekend conversations with the party trying to hammer out details and solutions to possible problems.

Simultaneous negotiations with both cities are possible, but considered much less likely.

Tuesday's announced would signal an intent to negotiate with the winning city.

Cleveland is the only city competing for both conventions.

Democrats are now slated to visit Aug. 4-5.

But a commitment to Republicans could ultimately make pursuing Democrats moot, because one city won't host both events.
