CLEVELAND -- Gov. John Kasich's campaign strategy is to govern and stay out of the verbal combat zone.

But others are making his case for him

Today Ohio Republican Party chairman Matt Borges and Republican Party of Cuyahoga County chairman Rob Frost joined to target FitzGerald on two issues.

They are calling on him to release records of his key-card swipes so the public can see how much time he spends on the job.

They want him to "...share the information that, even under (former Cuyahoga County Commissioner) Jimmy Dimora they would give taxpayers," Frost said.

FitzGerald has, thus far, refused to release those records to the NorthEast Ohio Media Group, on the grounds of security.

They also called on FitzGerald to dump the county's Inspector General Nailah Byrd.

They say she is wrongly being paid by taxpayers to vet FitzGerald's campaign contributions.

They say she has failed to produce requested records of time spent on that task.

She has done at least 57 hours of work on this task.

And they are calling on FitzGerald's campaign to reimburse the county $3,653.

FitGerald is speaking to the Akron Press Club this afternoon.

WKYC's Tom Beres hopes to interview him afterwards on these issues.
