The St. Edward High School basketball team defeated East Tech 89-64 in an Ohio High School Athletic Association Division I state tournament semifinal contest on Friday at Ohio State's Value City Arena.

The Eagles (25-2) jumped out to an 28-12 lead at the end of the first quarter and never relinquished their lead. St. Ed's was led offensively by Kipper Nichols (25 points) and Will Meyer (14). Derek Funderburk and Tony Vuyancih also recorded double-digit point totals.

Anthony Carmon (16 points), Johnell Free (15) and Markell Johnson (13) led the Scarabs' offensive attack in the losing effort.

St. Ed's dominated the glass and outrebounded East Tech 37-20.

The Scarabs conclude their banner season with a 23-5 overall record.

The Eagles will play for the program's second state title in the big-school state championship game on Saturday at 8:30 p.m.
