Saturday night was a big night for the Cavs.
It could have been much bigger.
They retired Z's jersey. LeBron was in the house. It was an opportunity to bring everyone together, and maybe, just maybe, plan something special for the future.
My take: I think they did the opposite.
I read the story from Jason Lloyd of the Akron Beacon Journal and he says even with the ceremony, Z's future with the team is on soft ground. Zydrunas has been an assistant to the GM for two years, but Chris Grant is gone. The article says Z could be out at the end of the season.
Sad. Z may be the Cavs last link to LeBron.
But while the ceremony was nice, the Cavs put on another bad show. LeBron witnessed what we've watched all year. A basketball team that struggles, even at home, even against a team like the Knicks who are a bigger mess. If there was ever a game the Cavs needed to put their best foot forward and a get a win, to show off what they have, it was this one.
Instead, a 10-point loss to the Knicks.
Does LeBron really want to leave a chance at titles, for this? To the anti-LeBron fans, you can celebrate this victory, while your team is heading to another 50-plus loss this season, and probably next season and so on.
Enjoy the banner that was raised Saturday night. I have no idea how this franchise will raise another one any time soon.
