BEREA -- Now that the interviews are over, new Browns Head Coach, Mike Pettine is ready to get to work.

The Browns officially named Pettine as their new coach on Thursday afternoon. The announcement came just hours after Pettine arrived at the Berea facility for what was his third meeting with the Browns front office.

WKYC has learned that Pettine was offered a five year contract. No other details are available at this time.

Pettine was then introduced to the media during a Thursday afternoon news conference.

Browns owner Jimmy Haslam says Mike Pettine is a perfect fit for the team and fans.

Pettine said, "It's been my life-long dream to be an NFL head coach and however that opportunity presents itself, I'll take it…the fans here are among the most loyal."

He says his father taught him, "find a job that you love and you'll never work a day in your life." He credits his father, a well-known high school football coach in his own right, as his biggest influence.

Pettine says he will create a culture of accountability as coach of the Browns. He told the Radio Voice of the Browns, Jim Donovan, the players will pretty much know from day one what is expected of them and that they will be graded continuously on their performance.

Pettine comes to Cleveland from Buffalo but has also spent time in Baltimore with the Ravens and with the New York Jets where he worked with Rex Ryan. But Pettine says his personality is completely different from that of Ryan.

Pettine says he's not going to run the offense and he does have people in mind for the QB position.

"The sooner I can get off this stage and out of this suit and working on football, the better off we'll be," he told reporters.

And how will he be working? "You never fit your players to your system, you fit your system to your players," he said. "…teams talk themselves into losing…..and I'm not going to be predicting any Super Bowls."

Pettine,47, is replacing Rob Chudzinski who was fired in December after finishing the season 4-12.

The entire Browns front office brass met with Pettine on Tuesday in Mobile, Alabama, the site of the Senior Bowl. That meeting, Pettine's second interview, lasted about four hours.

Pettine's flight to Cleveland from Atlanta was delayed earlier today, which pushed back the schedule in Berea.

Pettine's current team – the Buffalo Bills – are making preparations to find a new defensive coordinator to replace Pettine.
